Mixstart features a powerful dual-engine search system that perfectly integrates local resource management with Everything full-disk search, helping you locate any file in milliseconds.

Evoke Search

• Shortcut Key: When the Mixstart window is active, press Ctrl + F.
• Direct Typing: Simply start typing on the main interface, and the search box will appear automatically with real-time results.

Search Architecture

Mixstart's search is driven by Dual Engines, with results displayed in separate sections:

1. Local Results

Includes all content you have manually added to Mixstart:

• App Files: Software shortcuts, documents, etc.
• Mix Scripts: Automation scripts you've written or downloaded.
• System Tools: Cleanup tools, system settings, control panel items, etc.
• Bookmark Favorites: Saved websites with automatic Favicon detection.

Pinyin Search

Local results support Pinyin initial-letter matching for Chinese users. For example, typing wx will quickly find 微信 (WeChat).

2. Full-disk Search (Everything)

Mixstart works in tandem with the Everything search utility on your system via SDK, providing:

• Millisecond-level retrieval of millions of files.
• Smart Filtering: Supports filtering by specific types (Folders, Images, Videos, Audio, Documents, Code, etc.).
• Real-time Preview: Supports image thumbnails and folder content previews.

System Requirements

Mixstart does not distribute Everything binaries. To use this feature, you must ensure that Everything is installed and running on your computer (Version 1.4+ recommended).

Advanced Interaction: Detail Panel

Mixstart provides a powerful Detail Panel within the search results list.

How to Open

• Space Bar: Select or hover over a result and press Space to toggle the Detail Panel.
• Click to View: Clicking the right area of a result item (depending on configuration) can also open details directly.

Panel Features

• File Details: Displays precise file size and last modification date.
• Path Management: Shows the full path and supports one-click path copying or opening the containing folder.
• Content Preview:
  • Folders: View the sub-file list directly within the detail panel without opening the folder.
  • Images/Code: Supports thumbnail previews or basic file information.

Search Tips

• Category Filtering: Click on category labels at the top of search results to quickly filter current results and reduce visual clutter.
• Instant Access:
  • Local Items: Supports customizable single/double-click to launch.
  • Everything Results: Press Enter to open the file directly or use the Detail Panel for more actions.
• Web Search: If the search query has no local hits, pressing Enter will launch your default browser to search the web.

Version Compatibility

Regarding the Everything search integration, if you encounter issues where search results are not displayed, please refer to the following:

Everything 1.5 Alpha

If you are using the Everything 1.5 Alpha preview, it might be running in a separate named instance by default, preventing Mixstart from connecting directy.

1. Open the Everything 1.5 window.
2. Go to: Tools -> Options.
3. Select General in the left panel.
4. Locate alpha_instance in the right properties.
5. Ensure this option is OFF or Empty (i.e., not running as a separate instance).
6. Restart both Everything and Mixstart.

Suggestion

For the most stable search experience, we recommend general users use Everything 1.4.1 (Stable).
